What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) translates to “universal life force energy” and is a non-invasive form of alternative healing therapy that originated in Japan by Mikao Usui during the early 1900s.

It's based on the idea that there's a universal life force energy that flows through energy centers known as chakras in the bodies of all living things. Chakras are thought to be spinning disks of energy that should stay “open” and aligned, as they correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.

Stressors and traumas of everyday life can impede this energy to flow properly. When energy centers are blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to physical, emotional, or spiritual issues. Reiki sessions restore this flow of energy throughout the body for both humans and pets.

Reiki can be experienced either in-person or remotely. Its unique nature allows it to transcend the constraints of time and space, making it possible for individuals or pets to receive Reiki's healing energy no matter where they are in the world. Reiki is safe for people and pets of all ages.

It's important to understand Reiki, is complementary in nature and shouldn't replace conventional medical treatment. For any medical concerns, please seek guidance from a qualified healthcare professional.

What does Reiki feel like?

People who receive Reiki often report feeling more relaxed, less anxious, and more peaceful.

Whether experienced in person or at a distance, perceptions vary from person to person and session to session. Often other feelings include warmth, coolness, or tingling sensations. You may even fall asleep or see a variety of colors while your eyes are closed. Whether a person feels a lot or a little does not indicate the amount of help Reiki is giving.

What does Pet Reiki feel like?

Reiki experiences for animals can vary widely, just as they do for humans. Here are some common observations and descriptions of what Reiki might feel like for an animal:

  • Relaxation: Many animals often enter a state of deep relaxation during a Reiki session. They may become visibly calm, with slow, gentle movements or even falling asleep.

  • Sensations of Warmth: Some animals may perceive Reiki as a warm or tingling sensation where the practitioner's hands are placed. This warmth is often associated with the flow of healing energy.

  • Increased Trust: Timid or fearful animals might start to trust the practitioner more during Reiki sessions, gradually allowing closer contact and touch.

  • Emotional Release: Just like humans, animals can hold emotional tension. Reiki may help release these emotions, leading to behaviors like sighing, yawning, or even crying in the case of some animals.

  • Improved Movement: In animals dealing with physical discomfort, Reiki may provide relief. They might exhibit improved mobility, reduced stiffness, or greater ease in their movements.

  • Enhanced Bond: Reiki sessions may strengthen the bond between an animal and their guardian, as they often feel the loving and nurturing energy of the practitioner.

  • Vocalizations: Some animals may make vocalizations during a Reiki session, such as purring in cats or relaxed sighs in dogs. These sounds can indicate contentment and comfort.

  • Restored Appetite: In animals that have experienced stress or illness, Reiki might help restore their appetite and overall vitality.

It's important to remember that animals communicate differently than humans, and their responses may be subtle. They may also need time to adjust to the energy and the presence of the practitioner.

Ultimately, the goal of pet Reiki is to provide a safe and nurturing environment in which the animal can access the healing energy they need. It's about respecting their boundaries and allowing them to guide the session.
