Individual therapy is one type of talk therapy in which a professional helps an individual work through personal challenges they've been facing. It is a beneficial treatment option for a variety of physical and mental ailments. Also known as psychotherapy, it is useful for improving or controlling symptoms that influence a person's health.


Individual therapy is useful for various types of conditions that bring stress, anger, grief, or conflict. In a calming, private location, an individual and a therapist will discuss how various issues can be dealt with, including (but not limited to):


  • Expression of thoughts and emotions
  • Behavior patterns
  • Problem solving
  • Conflict resolution
  • Strengths and weaknesses


Individual therapy can occur for short-term (focusing on short-term issues) or long-term (dealting with longer-term concerns). The number of sessions and the schedule of appointments will depend on the individual's situation and the therapist's suggestion.
